Last night my cousin, K., visited en route to San Francisco, where he’s frequently sent by his job. We hit downtown SLO for a few minutes, had pizzas, got sucked into the farmer’s market throngs, and left. Claustrophobia — or at least crowd anxiety — runs in my family. Later I screened The Iron Giant for him, because he’d never seen it before (he’s an animation snob, is bored to tears by anything not live-action), and because he made fun of me for spending three hundred bucks on my Iron Giant replica.

It arrived yesterday, but I wasn’t around to sign for it, so today I rushed back to Morro Bay on my lunch break (it’s so weird to have lunch breaks again) and collected it from the post office. It now stands on my desk, as tall as the dual 20″ flat screens I work on. It towers over my MacBook, and it’s cool as hell. It’s a great conversation starter, and it turns out that the price I paid for it is an even better conversation stopper. Whoda thunk.

small price to pay for something so awesome! and hey, if you’ve got the cash to burn, why not spend it on something you know will make you happy? Who cares what anyone else thinks!?

I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my (well - actually my son’s - yeah that’s it) 20″ Ultimate Iron Giant … I can’t wait to see the look on his face!
