R.: Thank you, J. As you can see, I'm standing in front of the city courthouse, where S. T. has just been indicted for the heinous crimes he committed last fall. Judge H. P. L. sentenced S. T. to life plus forty-seven years. Let's talk to a few people about their thoughts on this. Sir: were you in the courthouse this afternoon? What are your thoughts on S. T.'s sentencing?
I.: Oh, yeah. Yeah. Good. Good thing.
R.: You stand behind the judge's sentence, then.
I.: Oh, uh-huh. Yeah, uh-huh.
R.: Ma'am, if you've got a moment. We're talking about S. T. and the sentence that was issued today. What are your thoughts on this afternoon?
B.: Terrible, oh, so terrible. Innocent man, and all that. Going away for life and then some, oh, how bad.
R.: You feel that S. T. should not have been sentenced to life imprisonment, then?
B.: No, wife and kid, family and dog, food on table.
R.: I see. Hi, sir, can I ask you what your thoughts are today?
C.: Well, thinking 'bout sandwich, honey and bacon, something crispy. With bite.
R.: Right.
C.: Yeah. And mayonnaise with barbeque sauce and onions. Old truck!
R.: There you have it, J.
J.: There we have what, R.? I'm a little perplexed about the public response to this landmark criminal trial.
R.: Obviously the public is divided in its support of the judge's action this afternoon, and at least one-third of the public is more concerned with what they're having for lunch than S. T.'s recent sentencing.
J.: I see. Well, thank you, R. Now to F. for the latest public opinion on the sale of ballparks to corporate entities.
R.: Wait, wait, J.
J.: I'm sorry, we're going back to R. in the field for a moment. ... Go ahead, R.
R.: What are your thoughts on this sentencing?
J.: (flustered) Oh, um, well, I.
R.: I see.
J.: But, c'mon, what, oh, shoot.
R.: Thank you, J.
J.: Wait, wait. What's your opinion?
R.: Of?
J.: The sentence handed down today.
R.: I feel that Judge H. P. L. acted admirably on behalf of the voting public. The sentence issued forth was fair and well-thought. S. T.'s crimes certainly require a firm response from our government, and J., I think that's what we saw here today.
J.: Oh.
